For Long Trips...
- Use your next road trip as an excuse to give
your car a maintenance check-up to ensure it's in tip top
shape for the long drive ahead.
- Avoid junk food by taking a small cooler
with bottled water and a bag of trail mix for emergencies.
Other great snacks for long car rides are bananas, pretzels,
and graham crackers.
- When driving on toll roads, keep lots
of change in your ashtray. This prevents you from fumbling
for change while also trying to steer.
- To avoid construction-related traffic and
detours, contact the highway patrol to find out where the
problems are and adjust your route accordingly.
- Be careful of what medications you take
before driving. Even over-the-counter medicines can be dangerous
if they are not selected or used properly. Carefully reading
medication labels can help avoid side effects that could make
you dangerous on the road.
- Using cruise control or keeping your foot
steady on the pedal saves gas on long highway trips by maintaining
steady speeds and avoiding constant braking and acceleration.
